How does my donation help?

Donation Opportunities

Mount Athos Foundation of America (MAFA) Funds:

  • MAFA General Fund
    MAFA’s General Fund supports new and ongoing efforts on Mount Athos and operations of its monasteries, as well as MAFA’s mission to foster knowledge and understanding of the monastic communities. Funds can also be directed to the specific initiatives listed below.
  • Mount Athos Emergency Aid Fund
    Endowed fund whose goal is the ability to spend up to $100,000 every two years on emergency needs and smaller amounts annually. A general fund, it can also contribute to monastery operational costs in times of need.
  • MAFA Scholarship Funds
    Two endowed funds whose goal is the ability to pay out $1,000/year for each of two travel scholarships to students or scholars in the United States for study on Mount Athos or study of Athos-related subjects elsewhere.
  • Architectural & Ecological Conservation Fund
    Funds support MAFA’s mission to help restore and preserve the historic monuments.
  • Artifacts Conservation & Preservation Fund
    Funds support MAFA’s mission to help restore and preserve the historic artifacts.
